Brighton's resurgence continued for Graham Potter as they hosted FA Cup winners Leicester. Brighton dominated the opening stages but needed a controversial penalty to open the scoring through Maupay. Welbeck doubled the Seagull's lead in the second half as he headed beyond Schmeichel in the Leicester goal. Vardy soon scored what proved to be a consolation goal in the 61st minute, before Lookman and Ndidi's goals where both chalked off for offside.
Brighton dominated the first half and almost found themselves a goal up when Lallana skied an early opportunity. However, Brighton's opening soon emerged when they where awarded a penalty as Vestergaard was controversially penalised. Maupay stepped up and made no mistake in scoring his third goal of the season.
The second half proved a brighter affair for the Foxes as Vardy turned his shot wide. However, Brighton soon broke the Foxes defence as Welbeck turned Trossard's free kick into the bottom corner. Leicester soon pulled a goal back, Jamie Vardy halving the deficit, turning the ball home from Tieleman's fine cross. The Foxes had twice thought they had equalised, Lookman and Ndidi both scoring from corners, but Barnes was adjudged to have interfered with play from an offside position for both goals. That concluded a controversial afternoon at the Amex, where Leicester will feel unfortunate not to at least gain a point.
Our view
A controversial afternoon Potter referred to as a 'little bit of luck' bolsters Brighton to 12 points. With just 1 loss in their last 6, can they continue their fine form in their next Premier League outing at Selhurst Park?
Leicester sit 12th with just 2 wins and 3 losses as they continue their struggles since the end of last season. It's now 3 games without a win for Rodgers' side. They will hope their luck changes at the King Power against Burnley next week.
