Brentford match Liverpool in thriller

Liverpool's unbeaten run continued but it was the Bees who snatched the headlines at the Brentford Community Stadium, as they twice came from behind to earn themselves a point.

A lively start to the game saw a goal line clearance at each, the first an immense clearance from Ajer to deny Salah before Matip emerged to deny Mbuemo. Brentford were the surprise opening scorers as Canos' low cross was flicked on by Toney before being turned home by the most unlikeliest of scorers, Ethan Pinnock. However, it wasn't long before Liverpool were level, Liverpool captain Henderson teeing up Jota with a cross who once again found the net with a header. Brentford then had goalkeeper David Raya to thank for going in 1-1 at half time, as he denied Jota from close range just before the halfway stage. Could the home side hold out for a result against the big 6 side?

In the second half, Jota was once again denied from close range by Raya, before Salah made it a century of goals and made it 2-1 when he turned in from Fabinho's ball after he was initially ruled offside. Once again, Brentford found a reply as Janelt managed to head the ball in at his second attempt after Jansson hit the bar. Unfortunately for Brentford, it was yet another quick response for the Merseyside team as Jones fired a thunderous shot passed David Raya, with a bit of help from a slight deflection. But it was Salah, out of all the players, who ended up costing Liverpool the 3 points as his shot 1 on 1 with Raya looped over the Brentford goal to deny the reds an insurance goal. This proved costly as Brentford's resilience shone through, when summer signing Wissa levelled the scorings and earned Brentford a hard fought draw.

For Liverpool, an evening of 'what could've been' despite remaining top of the league and unbeaten. Up next in the league, they host Champions Manchester City  as they seek the difficult task of remaining unbeaten. For Brentford, an impressive opening to the season continues as they sit on 9 points in 9th. Next up, they look to hold high flying West Ham at the London stadium.
