A second half Villa masterclass halted Everton's resurge under Benitez. Matty Cash opened the scoring with powerful strike on his weak foot before Leon Bailey's 20 minute stint on the pitch saw him force an own goal from Digne before the Jamaican bulged the net with a thumping volley.
Villa started the game the brighter but almost found themselves a goal behind as Rondon came close to marking his return to the Premier League with a goal. However, Villa's dominance almost paid dividend as Ming's header was denied by Begovic.
Despite an early Demarai Gray opportunity, the game continued with one way traffic in favour of the home side. The hosts soon found an opening as Douglas Luiz slid in Cash who got the better of Digne before finding the top corner. Things soon worsened for Digne as he turned Bailey's corner into his own net. Bailey rounded off the scoring scoring as Ings' exquisite pass found the Jamaican who registered his first Premier League goal.
Our View
A convincing win for Dean Smith's men eases pressure on the Englishman. Smith seemed to come under fire from a section of Villa fans last time out against Chelsea. Their 3-0 defeat partnered with Smith's comments and nature after the game left some fans questioning his integrity. They now sit 10th in the league 3 points adrift from opponents Everton.
For Everton, a halt to their progress as they failed to extend their 5 game unbeaten run. However, a chance to put such a defeat to bed in their next Premier League outing at home to Norwich. The blues now sit 6th as they look to challenge at the top end of the Premier League.
